The Shoe on the Other Foot – Part 1

At Internet Reputation Management, our mission is to to help people and companies protect their reputations. But now I find myself on the other side of the fence.  Last Friday, December 14, my wife had her company Holiday party.  This is her company (Preferred Health Resources).  PHR is about 10 years old and has about  25 employees.  My wife booked the party at a local restaurant, she booked well ahead of time.

When we arrived at the restaurant we found that we were not in a private room but setup in the general dinning area.  This is NOT what we were told the arrangement would be.  It was quite evident that the owner had over-booked because there were two private rooms and they were both taken.  My wife was very upset and expressed her displeasure to the owner.  The owner told her not to worry and that “he would make it up to her”.

At the end of the meal she spoke to the owner.  She took the bill, from the owner but found no discount. She got angry and stated that he had not treated her fairly and threatned that she  would  tell all her friends and family to stay away.   The owner proceed to say to her “I hope you have a terrible life “ and gave her the Italian sign for “f*** y**”.

My wife is furious, to put it mildly.   She called American Express to stop the charge and went home that night to put a negative review into Cityscape.  But she knows my business and is now asking me to put up, no she is DEMANDING, a negative site about the restaurant.  It is difficult to for me to do as she asks, because I know that with less than 15 minute of effort, I could ruin this guy’s business.  If I simply posted the truth it would hurt his business, but if I felt really vindictive, I could explain my opinion that his food was tainted and his restaurant unsanitary.  I could present all information in a way that I was legally free of liability, but his business could be mortally wounded.   I know I could do this because I have seen first hand how it was done to others.

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Stay tuned.
